Our Story

Northern Providence Investments ("NPI") is an asset management firm dedicated to the business of acquiring, developing, and managing socially responsible investment ("SRI") assets for qualified institutional investors. NPI aims to provide a diversified portfolio of performing investments that apply an investment strategy where social, ethical, and environmental criteria are combined with traditional financial analysis in the investment decision-making process.

NPI operates as an institutional arranger and administrative/agency platform through a collaborative service-provider model. In its arranger capacity, NPI facilitates the establishment and initial maintenance of structured investment programmes, including coordination and communication among issuers, dealers, service providers, and other transaction participants. Regulated activities are conducted through appropriately authorised firms or pursuant to applicable exemptions.

Northern Providence Investments uses a proprietary, disciplined, investment screening and selection process to provide investors with access to passive and active investment solutions to SRI assets with varying capitalization ranges and styles.
The foundation of NPI’s corporate governance, including its core socially responsible framework used to evaluate potential investments and business relationships are as follows (the “NPI Socially Responsible Principles”):
Principle 1: Clear and Sustainable Commitment to Workplace and Employee Relations
An entity with a clear and sustainable commitment to workplace and employee relations should typically:
- Recognize the benefits of diversity and as such maintain a positive stance on diversity as it applies to its hiring and operational practices.
- Maintain programs or initiatives designed to engage, encourage, and support equal employment opportunities to underrepresented communities, which may include, but is not limited to, women, BIPOC* communities, persons with disabilities and LGBTQ2S+ communities.
- Provide fair, equitable and sustainable compensation to all its employees.
Principle 2: Clear and Sustainable Commitment to Community Involvement and Social Issues
An entity with a clear and sustainable commitment to community involvement and social issues should typically:
- Actively contribute to or maintain a socio-economic development or community involvement program that fosters sustainable social and economic well-being.
- Respect and support the basic human rights of all people.
- Treat all people fairly, refrain from participating in discrimination and stereotyping, and seek to benefit from and nurture diversity in all its activities.
Principle 3: Clear and Sustainable Commitment to Global Environmental Management
An entity with a clear and sustainable commitment to global environmental management should typically:
- Maintain a keen sense of awareness of its global environmental impact.
- Develop policies and programs to maintain environmental sustainability, engage in responsible resource management, and obey or exceed environmental, safety, and similar laws in the region(s) that it operates.
- Practice open, honest and transparent environmental reporting in an effort to promote the value of the global environment.
Principle 4: Clear and Sustainable Commitment to Ethical Management
An entity with a clear and sustainable commitment to ethical management should typically:
- Offer its products and services with honesty and without discrimination or undue preference.
- Operate in an honest, trustworthy, compassionate, and responsible manner with as much transparency and openness about company policies, finances, and behaviour as is feasible.
- Employ sound practices of corporate governance, including issues of board independence, board and executive compensation, and structural integrity.
*BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (pronounced "bye-pock").
